THE LITTLE THINGS

THE LITTLE THINGS

Welcome to the Sideline Sisters blog, where we share essential tips, tricks, and tools we’ve found for growing a successful Network Marketing business.

A little reminder for all of us today…

How often do you take time to celebrate your achievements? I know we often feel proud of ourselves when we’ve hit an income goal or the next level of management, when we have a new person join our team, or when we’re invited to be a trainer at one of our company or team events. We pop the bubbly, announce it to the world, and generally just feel really dang good about ourselves. And these are great achievements, worthy of being celebrated for sure! But those “big” events are not what make up most of our time spent in our businesses, are they?

The vast majority of our time is actually spent in day-to-day activities–like making phone calls or sending texts, writing thank you notes, preparing to make product presentations and the like. And often while we are working in these little ways on our business, we forget how important it is to celebrate those little things.

For example, let’s say you’ve been afraid of public speaking in the past, but in order to sell your product or service you have to put yourself in front of people–upwards of 50 or more people per month! And you find the courage to practice and do it, because you’re driven by your goals. THIS IS WORTH CELEBRATING.

Perhaps there’s a person you’ve been dying to ask to join your business, but you’ve been chickening out about it for months.  One day, something clicks in your heart and you find you have the strength to put yourself out there; to be vulnerable. Whether they say yes or no, THIS IS WORTH CELEBRATING.

Maybe you’ve been passionate about the fact that your product changes lives–and a client, out of the blue, let’s you know just how much she appreciates that you introduced her to it. THIS IS WORTH CELEBRATING.

I’m sure you can imagine a dozen more scenarios in which we can celebrate our everyday, in-the-course-of -business accomplishments. And it’s important to do so–because if we can’t find the joy in the journey, we may not find it in us to stick it out to our ultimate destinations!

I invite you today to make a list of at least 10 “little things” going on in your business and life that you can celebrate. Then pop the bubbly, tell your best business buddies (or comment below! we’d love to celebrate with you!), and feel REALLY dang good about yourself.

WHY ARE YOU HERE?

WHY ARE YOU HERE?

Welcome to the Sideline Sisters blog, where we share essential tips, tricks, and tools we’ve found for growing a successful Network Marketing business.

When you make the decision to become a Network Marketing Professional there is a “something” deep down inside of you that drives you to this field.  This “something” is sometimes very hard to convey to others.  It’s even harder to convey to yourself!  This “something” is often a constant nagging feeling deep in the core of your being that causes you to sit up and take notice, to believe that there is something out there that can help you be…better.  This “something” is your WHY!

When you reflect and truly figure out what your WHY is, it’s at that point that you can really start to market and share your business.  Simon Sinek wrote the book, “Start with Why,” and has done TED talks and YouTube videos about this subject.  You see, when you can truly determine why you are doing what you are doing and you can tell this story in a succinct and emotional way, you captivate your audience.  Your clients buy your why and then buy your product.  They want to help you; they have millions of options bombarding them every single day – when they can connect with you and your product, you’ve helped make their choice.

So how do you determine your Why?  Think of your why as an onion.  There are many layers to the onion and as you peel off the outside layer you get deeper into its core.  This is just like your why.  You have a superficial outside layer, but as you peel that layer back you start to find a deeper meaning that relates to that outer layer.  Let me give you an example from my own experience of why I joined a Network Marketing company:

Layer 1 – Make extra money each month (so that I can…)
Layer 2 – Pay off debt faster (so that I can…)
Layer 3 – Have extra money to see family more (so that I can…)
Layer 4 – Not miss time with loved ones or miss seeing my nephew grow up

Each person’s why will have a different amount of layers.  Some will have more than mine and some will have less.  Once you determine that inner layer, that ultimate why, you need to find a way to narrate your why.  This narration needs to be short, connecting and emotional.  You need to tell a story.  And it’s this story that will allow you to better market your business.    Here’s my story:

Six years ago my wonderful and amazing nephew was born.  He quickly became the light of my life and I lived for the photos and videos my sister would send me of him walking, taking swim lesson, playing basketball and telling jokes.  He lives three states away and because of my debt and financial obligations I am unable to travel to see him as often as I would like.  It wasn’t very long ago that my sister called me, half joking, asking if I could come over there for a few days and watch him because she couldn’t find a backup babysitter.  I had an instant sinking feeling in my stomach.  I wanted nothing more than to tell her I was on my way.  But I couldn’t.  Not now anyway.  Soon!  I am quickly paying off debt and creating an abundant life that will allow me to see my loved ones as often as I would like.  This is why I do network marketing.

Could you picture this struggle?  Could you connect with me in some way?  I hope you could.  Now go create your why, narrate your vision and start telling your clients why you are here!

LOSING BALANCE

LOSING BALANCE

Welcome to the Sideline Sisters blog, where we share essential tips, tricks, and tools we’ve found for growing a successful Network Marketing business.

I’m noting a small irony in writing on the topic of Work-Life Balance today, because to be honest, I’ve been super out of balance for the last three weeks. In fact, this blog post is 3 days late (and counting).  You see, I’m a WAHM (work-at-home-mom), and my eldest just finished Kindergarten. This means that now instead of one little person at home distracting me, I have two—one of whom refuses to take an afternoon nap. There goes my ‘work time’! And now for three weeks, rather than putting in a solid 3-4 hours per day into Sideline Sisters, it’s been a lot closer to 3-4 hours per week. And of course, this isn’t sustainable.

There’s something about being your own boss that is really freeing—any of you who have been able to replace your “full-time income” with your network marketing business, or any of you who dream of that day—know what I’m talking about. No more alarm clocks, no more bosses, total freedom of time and task. But those same freedoms come with some hefty responsibilities to be our OWN alarm clock and boss. And if we don’t do this? Our business flounders.

Here I am heading into a full month of having both kids home with me, and I realize it’s time to buckle down—and do the opposite of what used to happen in my life. It’s time to make sure that I’m making time for my business, that I’m balancing my family obligations with my responsibilities to this company we are building (by “we” I refer to myself and my partner Stephanie). As such, I’m going to return to the basics.

Wikipedia defines Worklife balance as a concept including proper prioritizing between “work” (career and ambition) and “lifestyle” (health, pleasure, leisure, family and spiritual development/meditation).  There are dozens of ways to try to strike the work-life balance, but today I’m going to remind myself of my favorite tactic for achieving balance—time blocking.

If you feel like you’re also having a tough time prioritizing and balancing your life, I want you to do something. I’m going to do this along with you—grab a pen and piece of paper really quick. I want you to go over to this blog post (by the lovely Stephanie), and follow her steps.  All of it is valuable, but for my purposes I at least need to revisit Steps 1 and 2—and I recommend you do the same. I’m betting by tomorrow I’ll have renewed  senses of purpose and priorities, and won’t have to look down at my to-do list next week and panic that I’m overdue on an important project. *cough cough*

Once you’re done, would love to hear your results! Leave us a comment or hit us up at sidelinesisters@outlook.com!

GIVE FREELY

GIVE FREELY

Welcome to the Sideline Sisters blog, where we share essential tips, tricks, and tools we’ve found for growing a successful Network Marketing business.

Give Freely – Give Often – Give Joyously

Abundance flows to those who have a grateful and giving heart!  Have you ever noticed that?  When you freely give to someone, whether it is your time, money or items, you are often rewarded with abundance in your own life.  This is also known as the Law of Abundance.  If you can…think back to a time when you felt you were kind of stuck in the rigmarole of life or work, when maybe things didn’t seem to be going the way you wanted them to go.  Now think about that same situation and fast forward a little bit to when it did start going the way you wanted it.  Was there some action that triggered it?  Maybe there was a time in your business when your sales were not increasing as quickly as they should have been even though you were putting in the work, so you decided to take a step back and do a little training or team building activity for your team to get everyone refocused.  Maybe you GAVE a few hours of your time to teach, inspire and fuel your team.  Did you notice a difference after this action?  Did you see a spike in sales?  Did you see some form of abundance come into your own life?

When you start looking at life through these goggles it makes it really fun.  You start trying to figure out where you can insert some giving and you have fun seeing that come back to you two fold.  Now don’t mistake this for being selfish and giving just so you can get something in return.  That is not what is being said at all and not encouraged.   Giving freely means that you give without expectation of a return gift.  By consistently, freely and abundantly giving to others around you, you actually create and operate on a higher wave length (energetically speaking).  When you operate at this higher level you act as a magnet and start to attract actions, items and people into your life that are also operating at that level.  It’s truly amazing!

You can also look at it in reverse.  If you tend to be hoarding of your time and a negative nelly you will attract similar people, actions and items into your life.  Do you really want to live that way?  I know I don’t.  So take some time to re-evaluate who you surround yourself with, what you surround yourself with and ask yourself if this is you operating on a high frequency with a giving and happy heart or if it is you operating on a low frequency and you need to change the way you think.

We encourage you to take some time and research the topics of the Law of Abundance and the Law of Attraction as well as look at our post from a few weeks ago that takes you through some easy ways to increase your giving.  We wish much joy and abundance to you and those around you!

PRESERVING JOY

PRESERVING JOY

Welcome to the Sideline Sisters blog, where we share essential tips, tricks, and tools we’ve found for growing a successful Network Marketing business.

This weekend my fiance and I watched our first baseball game of the 2017 season, and as I sat there I couldn’t help but think about how much joy this sport has brought to my life.  Growing up my dad played high school and college baseball, he then coached high school and legion ball.  While he coached I kept book and helped maintain the fields.  We watched baseball all the time!  Then I met my fiance and he grew up playing baseball and knows more about baseball than I can believe.  Now, he and I are season ticket holders of our local minor league baseball team.  We go to every home game and each game brings back great memories.  It’s the sounds, the environment and the people I get to share it with that bring me joy.

This particular game however, started to cause me some frustrations.  We’ve been to this stadium before and it’s a lot larger than the one at home.  This night also happened to be a Star Wars themed night and there were a lot of people in attendance.  I found myself in lines and away from family longer than I wished; and while sitting I found myself watching people walk by more than the game itself.  I started getting really frustrated that I wasn’t able to focus on something that brought me so much joy.  I had to work at being intentional with my focus and keep my joy, the game and my family, at the forefront of my thoughts.  When the game ended and we left the stadium I still had a great time and enjoyed quality time with family.

The reason I chose to tell you this story is because it’s a great example of how quickly and easily our joy can disappear.  You see, our joy is what keeps us moving.  It keeps us putting one foot in front of the other, it gets us up in the morning and it’s our joy that helps create our dreams.  This is not to say that with these distractions our joy is gone forever, but it’s important to understand what is robbing our joy so we can determine how to stop it from happening.  I’m sure that you can look back on your week and pick out one or two things that have distracted you from your joy.  Was it the 10 minutes of gossip at work?  How about the kids running around screaming and hitting each other?  Whatever your distraction was did you realize it was a distraction?  What were your feelings during that time?  If you are anything like me I am guessing that you got pretty frustrated and/or you felt disappointed.

Today though, I want to give you permission to have those feelings.  I also want to give you encouragement to be intentional about the thoughts and actions you have and take each and every day.  Remember that what you do today should take you closer to your joy and your dreams.

The Magic of Managing Expenses

The Magic of Managing Expenses

Welcome to the Sideline Sisters blog, where we share essential tips, tricks, and tools we’ve found for growing a successful Network Marketing business.

On occasion, here in the Sideline Sisters blog, we will address business finance topics—to break them down into easy-to-follow steps. We know this topic may make you want to roll your eyes back in your head and take a nap, but we promise to make this quick and simple. Today we’ll be highlighting the how and why of business expense tracking.

When I first started out in my business, I sort of knew that I should be keeping track of my expenses. However, other than stuffing my receipts into a folder, I did nothing else with them. When tax time came, it was an unholy disaster and so incredibly stressful! Luckily, I had a good accountant who helped me get it straightened out, but I do not recommend anyone approach their business in this manner! If you already have, it’s never too late to go back and fix it. If you’re just getting started, trust me, it’s worth getting off on the right foot.

You may already be aware of the tax benefits** available to small business owners.  There are a multitude of expenses that can be written off come tax time; cell phone bills and internet, product purchases for demonstration purposes, postage for sending items to clients, even travel and lodging and fees for business conferences.  There is a plethora of information to be found at the IRS Small Business website, and we strongly encourage you to visit and learn what you can. This is worth your time.

Next, let’s talk quickly about the HOW of business expense tracking. It’s actually quite simple, and if you keep up on it daily or even weekly, you’ll find it’s not nearly as daunting as you may believe.  Right now I’d encourage you to check out our freebie called, conveniently enough, Expense Tracker.

You’ll see four boxes for different expense categories-for instance, you’ll want to keep your postage costs separate from your product purchases. (Categorizing them now will save you time when you’re preparing your taxes). Write in the date, the amount, and a note or description of the purchase. At the end of each month, total your expenses at the bottom of the box. Most importantly, be sure to keep those receipts! One easy way is to tape them to the back of the page. If that doesn’t make sense to you, simply attach the page to a manila envelope—keep all of your receipts inside! Print as many of these pages each month as you’ll need to cover all of your expense categories.

If you follow this simple system, we can guarantee that you’ll not only feel much better at tax time, but you’ll also be able to see where your business is spending money. This all leads to you being able to make more informed decisions about your business

BOOK REVIEW: BUSINESS BOUTIQUE

BOOK REVIEW: BUSINESS BOUTIQUE

Welcome to the Sideline Sisters blog, where we share essential tips, tricks, and tools we’ve found for growing a successful Network Marketing business.

THE PERFECT READ FOR STARTING YOUR OWN BUSINESS

In April 2017 Christy Wright released her new book Business Boutique: A Woman’s Guide for Making Money Doing What She Loves. Christy is a Dave Ramsey personality, and as loyal Dave Ramsey fans we were extremely excited to get our hands on a step by step guide for women starting a business.  We had high hopes for this book and it exceeded those hopes.  (Go here for more info on Dave Ramsey. He changed our lives.)

When we started out on this beautiful journey called Sideline Sisters we had a pretty good idea of the steps we needed to take, but also had the understanding that we didn’t know everything.  So when we could pre-order the book we did so without hesitation and counted down the days for it to arrive.  We took the next two weeks to read the book and answer as many of the questions as possible before coming together for a full day of exploration, planning and dreaming.

The way this book is laid out makes it easy to take in what is being said and then turn around and put it into action using the action plans and questions at the end of each chapter.  We had already developed our mission statement, vision and goals, we had an idea of our target audience but added on more as we read, and we knew we needed to have a business account, but didn’t know that there was a right and wrong way to run it (just to name a few).  I think that the most interesting part was the financial section, finding out exactly what to do with the income coming in and what to set aside for taxes and savings.

So, as a network marketing professional, why should you read this?  What will this do for you?  Unless you have a business degree you have probably never been taught how to properly, lawfully and successfully run your business.  You have most likely been taught the policies of your company, the best way to make sales and how to talk to customers.  But, has anyone really sat down with you and asked…what’s your mission?  Why are you doing this?  Who is your ideal client?  What marketing avenues are you going to use and what’s the best way to get your name out there?  Do you have a business bank account set up and do you know what you need to set aside of taxes?  No, these topics probably haven’t been addressed in detail…well…that’s what this book is going to do for you and why you should read it!

It’s really hard to express to you in this blog just how exciting and on point this book is.  It makes you think, it makes you plan, it makes you dream and when you are done it makes you feel accomplished and less stressed.  Though this book is designed with women in mind, I was able to take all the information it contained and help apply that to my fiance’s business.  That just goes to show you the versatility of the book as well.   It is without hesitation that we at Sideline Sisters recommend this book.  Happy reading!

p.s. We receive NO kickbacks for referrals of this book. If that ever changes and we have affiliate links, we’ll make it very clear that is the case. 🙂

POWER OF GENEROSITY

POWER OF GENEROSITY

Welcome to the Sideline Sisters blog, where we share essential tips, tricks, and tools we’ve found for growing a successful Network Marketing business.

When was the last time you received a hand-written thank you note? How did it make you feel? I know that one of the things that impressed me so much about my sponsor into my business was that she consistently sent me hand-written notes. Sometimes it was a simple thank you for an order; sometimes just to say hello and keep in touch. It meant a lot to me that I knew I was on her mind and meant enough to her to take the time and effort to send me “snail mail”.

Today I want to outline some of my favorite ways to show generosity through your business—not only does it make your client or team member feel good, but it really makes YOU feel good, and shows that you are a person of integrity and caring.

  • Write a thank you note—Like I said above, this can have huge impact, and it is so easy to do. Grab some thank you cards from your local dollar or discount store, and write a quick note to let your client or teammate know you’re thinking of them. The goodwill this builds is priceless—much more valuable than the price of a stamp!
  •  Donate to charitable causes—find something that really speaks to your passion and give of your time, money or products. Most non-profits hold fundraisers throughout the year that will require items for auction, for example, and your product could be the perfect item for them to raise money with!
  • Add in free samples or services to client orders—this is a no brainer. Sell cosmetics? Add in a lipstick sample to your bag when you deliver their order. Sell a service? Offer to give them 30 minutes of your time for free. Get creative; there are many ways to add value to what you already provide your clients.
  • Send birthday/anniversary cards—just like sending thank you notes, this little bit of attention to detail can add up to your client and team feeling very special.
  • Offer special “client only” sales opportunities—again, if it’s within your business structure to offer special discounts or complementary pampering sessions or consulting time, DO IT. Not only just for your best clients, but for the people who may only purchase a little bit from your business. You never know who they may refer to you in the future!
  • Give TIME to your team—whether it’s 1-on-1 coaching or a team BBQ, giving of your time and experience to your team can only help your entire organization grow.
  • Offer this business opportunity!— If you’re not thinking about your offering your business as one of the most generous acts you may perform in your life, then you need to think again! You probably know from personal experience how much your life has grown and changed and improved since getting into network marketing. Why not share that same amazing opportunity with others? Invite people to coffee, share with them with an open heart, and give them a chance to see how much this industry can change their lives. You’re doing them a favor.

I hope this gives you some great ideas to start implementing in your business and life today! If you have any other ways you like to show generosity, post in the comments below. We’d love to hear from you!

GOALS & GRATITUDE

GOALS & GRATITUDE

Welcome to the Sideline Sisters blog, where we share essential tips, tricks, and tools we’ve found for growing a successful Network Marketing business.

Today we’re talking about goal setting, a key element in succeeding in any endeavor, but definitely in your network marketing business. Perhaps you’re still pretty new at this gig; maybe you have been around, but are looking for a refresher and some new inspiration.  Regardless, you must be here because you really care about succeeding at something that’s important to you.

First of all—I’m not going to spend time today talking about why setting goals is important—you’re probably already fully aware of the reasons.  And the how to set goals will be for another post. Today, I have a tool I want you to look at, and to consider incorporating into your week. It’s over in our Freebies page; it’s called Weekly Goal Sheet.  Do you have it open? Ok, great, now we can proceed.

I absolutely love this document—it highlights our need for daily gratitude AND daily action as equally important parts of accomplishing goals. I complete the goal section every week on Sunday or Monday, and the gratitude section each evening, and I can’t tell you how much it helps my motivation and my momentum.

First you’ll see the gratitude section. Here’s why daily gratitude is so important. There can be negative things in life, whether it’s resentment, fear, or criticism; but none of it can get in the way of your life’s purpose when there is gratitude in your heart. Go ahead and try it—if you’ve recently had a bad day or are feeling unsure about something, think of something else you are really truly grateful for, really FEEL it wash over you.  You’ll notice the negativity simply dissipates. Think of gratitude as your magic potion every time you are having a rough moment. And then, on a daily basis, take stock of all the things you’re grateful for and make a note of them.  Now you’re in the perfect frame of mind to work on accomplishing greatness.

The second part of this document is created for successful goal achievement. We’ve supplied five goal lines; you can use as many or few as you think are necessary.  Below is an example of my typical week. I am sure to include both business and personal goals, because I am all about life balance. After I list out my five main areas of concentration, I list three specific tasks I can accomplish that week to move my goals forward.

I’ve found that not only do I like having this visual reminder of my goals, but that when I refer back to it on a daily basis, it helps inform my choices and actions for the whole day. And it gives me a written record of all of the things I’ve accomplished, which is always a great cause for celebration!

I hope you’ll print this out and incorporate it into your habits as well. If you do, we’d love to hear back from you what you think! Either comment below or email us at sidelinesisters @ outlook.com.
